Introducing.. LEARN 2 SURF .NET !

For nearly 15 years, the LEARN 2 SURF South African surf schools have introduced thousands of clients (from around the world) to the life-changing 'sport' of surfing - but now ! (drum roll, please...)

LEARN 2 SURF is going INTERNATIONAL !

Sri Lanka is the first international location to go online. With it’s tropical warm waters, palm tree lined beaches, and a multitude of gentle surf breaks perfect for beginner and intermediate surfers - the Sri Lanka surf scene, over the last few years is booming in popularity! As Bali is known as a paradise for advanced riders, Sri Lanka is being referred to as the "beginner surfers' Bali ". The surfers' paradise for beginner and intermediate surfers!

Europe is following next - with LEARN 2 SURF scouts busy searching Spain, Portugal, France, Norway and the Netherlands (Yes! you CAN surf in Norway & Holland!). These new Countries will be launching in 2019.

Our radar is ON and searching for the top coaches at the best beaches in the world to LEARN 2 SURF !

NEW LOCATION : Sri Lanka (South Coast)

Our Surf School and Surf Camp on the South Coast of Sri Lanka - experience their peak surfing (and tourist) season from Novenber to March. This is the time when the South Coast surf spots get the best waves for surfing with nice regular swells and calm tropical breezes that make sweet and smooth surfing conditions.

We have 2 options for you on the Sri Lanka South Coast : Simply book a surf lesson with our Surf School in Weligama! Or.. Come stay with us in our Sri Lankan, Surf Villa!

Our Surf Villa is based in Kabalana on the South Coast, just further South from the former capital city of Galle. The Villa is a short, palm tree flanked, walk to the beach for a swim and there is an awesome variety of great waves within a short tuk-tuk ride from us.

We have a variety of accommodation options : from camping (in your own tent or ours) within the secure grounds of our surf camp, or booking a 2-3 bed shared room or 6 bed dorm room for you and your friends, or opt for a private room for just you, or you and your partner.

Our South Coast Surf Camps include daily coaching (with photos and video analysis) as well as educational surfing theory/culture/history sessions and surf movie nights in the evenings. We provide ALL the surf gear - so there's no need to travel with your surfboard/s.

NGO NEWS: MBC -> Surf Outreach

Muizenberg Beach Club (or MBC as it's affectionately known), is an NGO founded by LEARN 2 SURF back in 2010 to enable kids from disadantaged communities in the Cape Flats in Cape Town to be able to experience surfing.

The intention was to attract kids away from the gangs and drug rife areas, to rather spend time surfing than risk being corrupted by their surroundings in the Cape Flats.

Big news is that MBC has recently merged with "SURF OUTREACH", a similar surfing development program also based in Muizenberg - actually in the same building as our LEARN 2 SURF head office.

The merger of the two clubs went incredibly smoothly, as the kids from each organization already knew each other from the last few years of friendly rivalry in Surfers' Corner and local development surfing competitions.

The kids' initial reaction to the news of the merger was one of great excitement! Excitement at how much stronger the combined clubs' new surf teams would be in future surfing competitions! :D

We are happy to report that all is running well and the kids are flourishing!

The MBC/SURF OUTREACH program is supported by Oven Baked Pizza - the best pizzeria in Muizenberg. No, we're not just saying that - these are THE best pizzas in Muizenberg! Give them a try! ;-)

Kids Surf-day Parties

All of our surf schools run birthday surf parties for kids (ages 6-16yrs) all year round.

Simply bring your birthday cake (see pic), snacks and kids - and join us for a surf party on the beach!

How good is the surfing in Cape Town?

Film maker Calvin Thompson (credited in the 'happy girls' photo above) shot a great little promo video for surfing in Cape Town, South Africa.

The 2 surfers interviewed in this clip are Capetonians Matt Bromley (sponsored Big Wave surfer) and owner of LEARN 2 SURF, Ant Scholte.

HOT NEWS: Wetsuits for Surf Schools

Watching wetsuit technology develop over the last 15 years - LEARN 2 SURF concluded that today's modern wetsuits are NOT suitable for surf schools at all.

Wetsuits from 15 years ago last longer than the 12-24 month lifespan of the (expensive) international wetuit brands. Modern neoprene is designed for comfort and flexibility - not durability. Modern/advanced wetsuits can also be extreamly awkward to put on - especially as a first time surfer.

With these issues in mind, LEARN 2 SURF has designed their own range of wetsuits specifically for surf school use.

The custom-made wetsuits will ensure our surfers are kept warm during their lesson and experience far less of a before-and-after-lesson struggle in the changeroom - and, as a bonus to the surf school, the suits will last way longer!

End-of-Year Staff Party

End off your work year and kick off your holidays with a Team Building / Staff Party surfing lesson!

We will set up a gazebo on the beach for shade and can arrange a beach picnic or book your group into a local beachfront resturant for after the lesson.

Learning to surf is an awesome way to strengthen bonds between co-workers while learning and experiencing the thrill of surfing together.

DURBAN: The busiest LEARN 2 SURF school in South Africa

According to our booking records, LEARN 2 SURF in DURBAN is our most popular location (in South Africa) to learn to surf.

Durban is blessed with warm waters (no wetsuits required) and very good waves but with only one beach where it's recommended to learn to surf - Addington Beach.

If you're planning to surf in Durban during the South African summer months (Dec-Mar) please ensure to book far in advance to avoid dissappointment.

COMING SOON : LEARN 2 SURF in Cape St Francis

Cape St Francis, located on the famous 'Garden Route' of South Africa's East Coast, achieved 'over-night' fame in the international surfing scene, when a film called The Endless Summer hit cinemas in 1966.

The film contained footage of an absolutley flawless wave called "Bruce's". This footage of Bruce's 'went viral' (or whatever they would call the 60's equivalent of this) and officially put South Africa on the international surfing map.

Since the 60's, numerous surf breaks (for all skill levels) have been discovered in the area - including the world's best right point break "Supertubes" - which is just a 20min drive away in Jeffreys Bay.

Our beginner lessons will take place at the main beach at Cape St Francis - be sure to look out for LEARN 2 SURF in CAPE ST FRANCIS launching soon!

Muizenberg Surf Report

LEARN 2 SURF in Cape Town sends out a surf report for Muizenberg Beach every Monday and Thursday morning.

The surf report is designed/written for beginner surfers - using as few complicated weather terms and jargon as possble.

As well as informing surfers which day will be the best to surf at Muizenberg Beach, the report also helps to teach new surfers how to understand which weather conditions create the nicest waves for surfing.
