The Muizenberg Beach Club
The Muizenberg Beach Club (MBC) started as a LEARN 2 SURF surfing development program and has grown into a registered NPO (MBC Youth Dev) running daily after school outdoor activities with disadvantage kids from the Cape Flats in Cape Town.
MBC takes children between 8 and 17 years of age from underprivileged backgrounds and allows them to enjoy and experience activities in which they would not normally be able to partake.
There is one requirement: The children are only allowed to participate on the condition that they attend school. No school = no surfing.
The objectives of MBC is to take kids out of their regular environment and to introduce them to a healthy outdoor lifestyle – while motivating them to go to school and stay away from gangs, violence and drugs which unfortunately are so abundant in their daily lives.
MBC’s regular activities include taking the kids surfing, hiking, swimming/snorkeling lessons in St James tidal pool and fitness training & beach soccer.
