Surfer Girl Movies

A list of some of our favorite all girls surf movies. Surfing was a vastly male-dominated scene for many years. In the 90’s seeing a girl in the water at your local break was met with the reaction “oh wow, there’s a girl in the water”.

In the 1990’s a few more girls started surfing and then in 2002 came a Hollywood movie that exploded the girls surf scene like a nuclear bomb! The film was called Blue Crush. Suddenly every girl wanted to start surfing! Since then the ladies surf scene has grown from strength to strength and here are a bunch of awesome surf movies to prove it:


Sri Lanka Surf Camps

Sri Lanka is becoming known as the “Beginner Surfers’ Bali” (the island of Bali in Indonesia is ‘Mecca’ for serious surfers). With tropical warm waters and perfect waves for beginner/ intermediate surfers (and some amazing surf spots for advanced riders too) the highly affordable, Sri Lanka, is bound to explode in popularity in the next few years. Best you get there before the crowds do!


Classic Surf Movies: The Endless Summer (1966)

Hailed as the greatest surf movie ever made, ‘The Endless Summer’ has been entertaining audiences since it’s release in 1966 and continues to win over new fans, even in today’s modern film making era.

The concept: “On any day of the year it is summer somewhere in the world…” Director, Bruce Brown, took 2 surfers Robert August and Mike Hynson following the summer season around the world in search of the perfect wave.


Die Pro: Coaching Movie Stars

Learn 2 Surf​ was asked by Hoofkantoor Produksies​ to teach 3 actors how to surf for a South African/Afrikaans (surfing/drama) movie called Die Pro​.

The actors, Edwin van der Walt, Reine Swart and Bennie Fourie needed to learn to surf from scratch (on longboards), then progress in their skills in order to ride shortboards, and then to get good enough on shortboards so they could surf, in the movie, in Jeffreys Bay, in 4 weeks!

3 South Africans (surfing brothers Davey and Benji Brand and a film maker Dan Mace) have discovered what is being regarded as possibly the most perfect wave on earth.

A perfectly shaped left peeling point break with multiple barreling sections with rides up to 3kms long!
